Theresa has worked for the state for almost ten years as an attorney for the Department of Revenue Child Support Enforcement Division. She has been the SEIU/NAGE Unit 6 local president for two years and passionately represents 3,500 accountants, auditors, attorneys and other administrative employees across Massachusetts. "I became an SEIU leader to support the dedicated public employees who serve the people of Massachusetts", Theresa says, "and I see this election to the Retirement Board as a chance to protect our hard-won retirement benefits" As president of Unit 6, Theresa has fought hard for decent wages and benefits for Massachusetts state employees. She stood up to Governor Romney when he tried to take collective bargaining rights away from her union's members. She also lobbied against Romney's efforts to convert the state retirement system from the current defined benefit plan, which guarantees a lifetime pension, to a defined contribution plan, which pays benefits dependent on the ups and downs of the market, potentially leaving retirees without a pension. According to Theresa, "Massachusetts' government employees provide valuable services that state residents depend on. They're not getting rich working for the state but they should have pensions that provide them security throughout their retirement. That is why I opposed Governor Romney's plan to privatize our pensions and that is why, as a trustee of the State Retirement Board, I will work hard to make sure our public servants can retire with dignity." Theresa is a lifelong resident of Watertown, where she lives with her husband, Tim McGoldrick, and their three-year-old daughter, Emma. |
